The Local Government Management Services BoardThe Local Government Management Services Board was established in 1997 to be a centre of excellence in the provision of management services, human resource and industrial relations support and advice to local authorities in Ireland. The industrial relations division negotiates claims under the national pay agreements and provides expert support, advice and representational services to local authorities and other bodies at local, regional and national level. The human resources division promotes and assists the development of appropriate human resource practices that directly support the needs of each local authority in its delivery of quality services. The Board also seeks to support the diverse range of skills and knowledge required by modern managers by focusing on training and education, research and development, public relations and the law. The local government system employs 35,000 staff and is involved in a diverse and complex range of activities including housing and building, road transportation and safety, sanitary services, planning and development, environmental protection, recreation and amenities, agriculture, education, health and welfare. The revenue expenditure of the local authorities (29 county councils, 5 county borough corporations, 5 borough corporations, 49 urban district councils and 30 boards of town commissioners) exceeds €1,900 million. The Local Government Management Services Board has established this website to aid the personnel departments of the local authorities as well as the general public in finding courses in professional and personal development to ensure that they achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives. |
